Mamadou Barry, Officer of Disabled Persons Unit of the Department for Policy Coordination and Sustainable Development (DPCSD), states that the UN Programme on Disability aims to improve the status of disabled persons as well as call on different countries to exchange related information and experiences. He emphasizes the importance of technology to help disabled people to remove the obstacles of living in the society.
Richard Read, Head of the Center for Computing and Disability, State University of New York at Albany, speaks about the changes in perception of the disabled since last year, such as US Disabilities Act has begun to take hold, and the equalization of rules work has been committed by the Third Committee. He also expresses his hope that the technology exhibit in the UN Headquarters today can make people to consider the issue of technology transfer for the disabled.
