17. SOUNDBITE (English) Tom Fletcher, UN Relief Chief:
“So, I’m here in Korma, in Darfur, we're very close now to El-Fasher, which has been the epicentre of inhumanity in this conflict. And we're meeting survivors of that conflict who have had to fight so hard just to get here, moving along that road where there's extortion, there's brutality, there are mass executions, there are mass rapes. And then they get here and they're in desperate need of help. And I do not want the teams responding to that to be responding empty-handed. I'm hearing too often that people have nothing, that there is no food, there's no water, there's no medicine. This is a desperate, desperate situation. And the world must respond. Must respond.”
18. Wide shot, pan left, displaced people at Silik’s IDP centre

“It’s very brave of you to be willing to speak to us but also, we're fortunate to find someone who speaks such good English, who can tell the world what the situation is here, and try to get the support that this this community needs. And I hope that you and your family are reunited. I hope you get to Tawila. And inshallah, your students will be learning again from you, in safety.”

And we demand that of all the parties on the ground. We also discussed the requirements we have for safe passage into El Fasher and out of El Fasher - into El Fasher for our humanitarian, life-saving support and out of fashion for those civilians, the survivors who are so desperately looking to flee.”
